Development of a research data infrastructure for audio-visual data of qualitative social research (aviDa)
The aim of the project is to develop a research data infrastructure for the digital preservation and re-use of audio-visual data in the qualitative social research. It is planned to prepare the extensive body of audio-visual data of the department for general sociology of the TU Berlin as a pilot corpus and to carry out the project in close cooperation with test users from the qualitative social research. In this project, the focus is on the exploratory development of the archiving of video data, the metadata schemata for their appropriate re-use, and the standardization of formats in such a way that they can be integrated into the research data repository DepositOnce of the TU Berlin and thus made freely accessible to the social sciences research community.
As a proof of concept, streaming and transcoding of the audio-visual data is to be implemented and tested. An essential part of the aviDa project is to develop appropriate concepts and object-specific concepts of data protection, rights and access management, including a solution for the anonymization of audio-visual data.
In a later second research phase the enhancement of the developed functionalities, the extension from the largely social science-oriented exploration and test application in this project to other disciplines and research communities inside the field of humanities, as well as the connection to infrastructure facilities of other research centers is planned.
